Former NBA Player Says He’d Take Rajon Rondo Over Damian Lillard To Start A Franchise

Hypotheticals are the lifeblood of NBA discourse. In one such case, attention has turned to Rajon Rondo and Damian Lillard, two players who are not commonly compared, making the discussion itself somewhat unusual.

Rondo established his role as a traditional point guard, functioning as a facilitator alongside primary scorers, a formula that resulted in two championships. Lillard is a different archetype. He hasn’t won a championship, but he’s clearly a first option, particularly in his prime. He can get his own shots and take over games without needing much scoring help.

On “To The Baha” podcast, former NBA players Charlie Villanueva, Raymond Felton, and Theo Pinson got into it. The discussion took an interesting turn when Villanueva leaned toward Rondo over Lillard as a franchise starter.

“Who’s going to give me the ball? F*cking Rondo. If I’m starting a franchise, I’m picking Rondo. To me, I value passing ability more.”
