Bronny James, the son of four-time NBA champion LeBron James, was selected 55th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in last year’s draft. There are reasons to believe in his potential, but being a James surely played the biggest role.
Now, with talk of LeBron possibly leaving Los Angeles, it’s fair to wonder what that means for Bronny. It’s still unclear if the Lakers see him as part of their long-term plans or just someone tied to his father’s time with the team.
According to The Athletic’s John Hollinger, Bronny has to earn his role with the Lakers. If LeBron ends up leaving Los Angeles, Bronny’s spot may not be safe unless he shows he can hold his own.
Per The Athletic:
“James has a fully guaranteed deal this year, but after that, everything is up in the air,” Hollinger wrote. “If LeBron James isn’t a Laker after this season, it’s hard to see them keep riding with Bronny unless he’s earned his stripes by then; next year’s deal is only 50 percent guaranteed.”
