Cavaliers Head Coach Kenny Atkinson Sees MVP Future For Evan Mobley

Already a DPOY and an All-Star, Cleveland Cavaliers’ Evan Mobley is meeting expectations and still trending up. At just 24, he has plenty of room to grow. So what comes next?

If you ask Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson, an MVP nod could be in his future. Speaking during Summer League, Atkinson said Mobley should be in the MVP conversation within two to three years. That might sound bold, but it’s not exactly out of nowhere.

Per Bleacher Report

“I don’t want to put pressure on him, but in the next two-to-three years he should be in the MVP conversation,” Atkinson said.

Mobley finished 10th in MVP voting last season. He’s already one of the best defenders in the league, and his offensive game keeps making strides. The Cavaliers are also expected to contend enough that team record won’t likely hold Mobley back from MVP talks.

Right now, Donovan Mitchell is the headliner. But if Mobley picks up where he left off, it won’t be long before it’s his team and his alone.
