High expectations surrounded the Phoenix Suns after assembling a star-studded team with Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. They also added championship pedigree to their coaching staff by bringing in former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel.
However, those expectations fell spectacularly short, as the Suns suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the opening round of this year’s NBA playoffs. To make matters worse, they were swept, failing to win a single game.
Facing a disappointing first-round exit, the Suns are wasting no time in plotting their offseason course. Reports now indicate a potential coaching shakeup, with the possibility of a new head coach replacing Vogel or adjustments being made to his staff.
Per The Athletic:
“Durant, Booker and Beal did not produce at their best in these playoffs as a unit, and sources in the locker room also believe not one of the trio emerged as the necessary leader on the floor. But the buck stops at the head coach, and for the second offseason in a row, sources briefed on the situation told The Athletic that Phoenix will take a hard look at making a full coaching change or, at the very least, discuss adjustments to Vogel’s staff. General manager James Jones, however, is expected to continue overseeing team-building for the Suns, those sources said.”
