Several League Coaches, Scouts And Executives Believe The Mavericks Are One Center Away From Winning A Championship

This year’s Dallas Mavericks overachieved big time in many people’s eyes. Nobody expected the Mavs to beat the first-seeded Phoenix Suns team in the second round, and they had every right to lose in the first round against the Utah Jazz with Luka Doncic missing the first few games.

But they fought extremely hard and even managed to play in the Western Conference Finals before bowing out in five games against the Golden State Warriors. There’s no shame in that loss as they weren’t even supposed to make it that far.

Their 2021-2022 campaign was one to remember, but the focus now shifts to the offseason where they have to find their missing puzzle piece to help the team attain their championship aspirations.

According to several NBA coaches, scouts and executives, the Doncic-led Mavericks team is just one player away from winning an NBA championship, specifically pinpointing that they have to add an impactful center, similar to the likes of Tyson Chandler in 2011.

Per ESPN:

“They’re one player away,’ an Eastern Conference executive told ESPN, suggesting the Mavs could win a title as soon as next season if they figured out a way to add an impact center — in the mold of 2010-11 Tyson Chandler — who could be a primary Doncic pick-and-roll partner, rebounder and rim protector,” MacMahon wrote.

““It’s an opinion shared by several other rival coaches, scouts and executives who have recently discussed Dallas’ outlook with ESPN.”
