Shannon Sharpe: Wherever LeBron James Goes, The NBA Will Put Him In Prime Time

Shannon Sharpe believes Adam Silver is waiting on LeBron James for one very simple reason: the NBA already knows who it wants at the center of its biggest nights.

Silver recently acknowledged that James’ unresolved free agency affects the construction of the 2026-27 schedule, particularly opening week and the league’s Christmas Day showcase. James has confirmed that he will not return to the Los Angeles Lakers, but he has yet to announce his next destination.

“Adam Silver wants LeBron James no matter where he goes,” Sharpe said. “He wants him on Christmas and he wants him on opening night.”

Sharpe noted that the NBA’s landscape has changed, with major stars and teams moving in new directions. His larger point, however, was that none of those shifts have reduced James’ television value.

“I don’t give a damn where LeBron goes,” Sharpe continued. “LeBron James is going to open up on opening night and he’s going to be on Christmas Day. Now you can bet your last dollar.”

That is opinion rather than an official scheduling announcement, but it is hardly a reckless prediction. Even as James approaches the final stage of his career, his next team will instantly become one of the league’s biggest attractions.

The NBA may not know which uniform LeBron will wear yet. Shannon Sharpe is already confident about when everybody will be watching him.
