Pat Riley is not hiding his interest in bringing LeBron James back to Miami. His recruiting pitch, however, sounded less like a basketball presentation and more like an invitation to an extremely comfortable retirement community.
Riley confirmed that the Heat have held positive conversations with James’ agent, Rich Paul, while making clear that any reunion would depend on LeBron choosing Miami.
“We’ve had conversations with Rich, and they were very good,” Riley said. “So if that happens and he wants to come to the 305, we got a golf course. The weather’s nice.”
He then added another selling point while jokingly comparing Miami with Steve Kerr and California: Florida has no individual state income tax.

The comments do not mean an agreement is close, and Riley did not announce a formal commitment from James. They do confirm that the lines of communication are open between Miami and the representation of the player who helped deliver two championships to the Heat during his four-year run from 2010 to 2014.
Riley’s pitch was vintage Riley: direct, confident and delivered with enough humor to dominate the conversation without revealing too much.
Basketball fit, roster construction and contract details will ultimately matter most. But should LeBron want sunshine, golf and a familiar address, Riley has already reminded him that the 305 remains available… However, he did take his cookies though…
