Fresh off helping the New York Knicks win their first NBA championship in more than five decades, OG Anunoby made an impact away from the basketball court.
Anunoby selected five shelter cats in New York City to highlight for adoption shortly after the Knicks’ championship victory. Within days, three of the cats had already found permanent homes.
“This really made it possible for this cat to be adopted,” said Katy Hansen, director of communications for the Animal Care Centers of NYC. “And who knows how many people came in thinking they were going to meet one of those five and then they ended up adopting another cat.”
The gesture is fitting for a player whose personality often flies under the radar. While teammates celebrated the title and New York continued its citywide festivities, Anunoby, who also joined the festivities, used his platform to bring attention to animals in need of adoption.
