At Halftime In Milwaukee, Basketball Gave Way To A Different Kind Of Victory

There are nights in the NBA when the game itself is not the most memorable part of the evening. That was the case Sunday at Fiserv Forum, where the Milwaukee Bucks’ 131-115 win over the Memphis Grizzlies shared the stage with something larger than a game in which both teams didn’t play for anything anymore. A naturalization ceremony was held during halftime in which 18 people took their oaths and officially became United States citizens. The ceremony was directed by U.S. District Court Judge Brett Ludwig.

In a league that often speaks about community, inclusion, and the reach of sport, this was a vivid example of all three brought into one public moment.

The public schedule from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin listed the naturalization ceremony at Fiserv Forum for April 5, 2026, with Judge Ludwig presiding at 2:30 p.m. This was not merely a sports franchise lending its building to a civic event. It was a formal act of citizenship woven directly into the experience of a live NBA afternoon.

As for the game around it, Milwaukee handled Memphis 131-115 behind 24 points from Ryan Rollins, 21 from Cormac Ryan, and a 19-point, 11-rebound performance from Myles Turner, while the Grizzlies wasted a brilliant triple-double from Rayan Rupert. But even in a league obsessed with outcomes, that box score was only part of the story. Sunday’s deeper image was of a halftime break used not for entertainment, but for affirmation.
