Steve Kerr added another milestone to his coaching career Monday night when the Warriors’ 125-117 win over the Washington Wizards gave him his 600th regular-season victory. The number mattered on its own, but the historical context made it even more significant: Kerr became the fourth-fastest coach in NBA history to reach 600 wins, getting there in 943 games. Only Phil Jackson, Pat Riley and Gregg Popovich reached the mark faster.
Kerr’s reaction after the game sounded less like self-congratulation than gratitude. As he put it,
“It’s surreal to hear my name in that group, but I can tell you that one thing that bonds us all together — those names and mine — is talent. You can’t win in this league without great players, and I was blessed from the day I took this job with incredible talent.”

That response fit the way Kerr has typically framed his success in Golden State, consistently pointing to the players, the organization and the environment around him rather than presenting the achievement as an individual triumph.
Still, the milestone says something real about Kerr’s place in league history. Since taking over the Warriors in 2014, he has helped oversee one of the NBA’s defining dynasties, winning four championships and coaching through both the peak and reinvention of Golden State’s modern era. Reaching 600 wins faster than every coach except Jackson, Riley and Popovich places him in unusually elite company, and it does so while underscoring how quickly his tenure has turned into one of the most successful runs the league has seen.
