Anthony Edwards’ recent bluntness about road life in Memphis has already made the rounds, but Draymond Green added a vivid piece of Warriors history that explains why some teams take those complaints seriously.
On an episode of his podcast, Green said Edwards has been “pretty blunt” about Memphis, and then described an incident from the Warriors’ past trips there: the team stopped staying at a particular hotel after the sprinkler system went off in a room “for no reason,” soaking former Warriors center Andrew Bogut’s belongings. Green said the hotel “didn’t want to do anything about it,” and that Golden State switched hotels afterward.
Draymond Green on Memphis hotel: “[Anthony Edwards] is pretty blunt about it, but yeah. We stopped staying there because their sprinklers just went off for no reason in the room… Drenched all of [Andrew] Bogut’s stuff, and they didn’t want to do anything about it. Green’s story arrived in the wake of Edwards’ own comments about Memphis hotels, which Edwards delivered during a “Sundae Conversation with Caleb Pressley” appearance. Edwards said that when Minnesota goes to Memphis, “them hotels… be dirty,” and claimed he once walked into a room and found “stains” and feces on the bed.
Put together, the two anecdotes land like a strange NBA travel folklore: one star calling it like he sees it in the present tense, and a four-time champion chiming in with a flashback that’s so specific it almost reads like an urban legend, except Green is telling it as the reason the Warriors changed their routine.
