With noise building around the Dallas Mavericks, the team’s direction remains uncertain heading into trade season. There is ongoing debate over whether Dallas will hit a hard reset around Cooper Flagg or try to stay competitive by leaning on veterans like Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis. That uncertainty has naturally raised questions about which players could be on the move.
In that context, attention turns to Klay Thompson. When he left Golden State for Dallas, the goal was clear. He wanted another chance to compete for a championship while playing alongside a superstar like Luka Doncic. But with everything that has happened since, including the surprising Luka trade, Dallas no longer looks like an ideal situation for him.
With Klay’s original conditions no longer in place, ESPN Los Angeles radio host John Ireland now suggests that if Klay finds a way out of Dallas, the Lakers would make a lot of sense as his preferred destination and possibly the place where he finishes his career.
“Klay did not sign up for a rebuild. With Anthony Davis out, Dallas is heading in that direction. And if Klay were to get bought out, I have it on good authority that the first call his agent would make would be to the Lakers, because he would love to finish his career there,” Ireland said.
