Benny The Bull Won The Night Chicago Never Got

The strangest NBA nights tend to produce the cleanest snapshots. On Thursday, the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat never actually got to play their game at the United Center. The night was ultimately postponed due to court condensation after a lengthy delay and repeated attempts to make the floor safe.

But before the league made it official, the arena still had a crowd, the teams were still in limbo, and the building still needed something to do with its energy. That’s when Chicago’s longtime chaos agent, Benny the Bull, walked into the dead time and turned it into content.

During the delay, Benny challenged Heat guard Tyler Herro to a backward half-court shot contest. Benny stepped up first and drilled it immediately. Herro, faced with the worst possible competitive math (you can’t “win” against a mascot who just went 1-for-1 from half court while facing the wrong direction), declined to follow through, effectively backing out after Benny’s first-shot swish.
