Christian Wood Awarded Temporary Custody Of His 2-Year-Old Son After Filing Claims Of Attempt On His Life

Christian Wood’s life away from the court has moved into a far more serious arena than free agency rumors and box scores.

Multiple outlets reporting on court filings say Wood has been granted temporary sole custody of his 2-year-old son and a temporary restraining order against his ex-girlfriend, Yasmine Lopez, after Wood alleged she was “responsible and/or connected to” what he described in filings as an attempted hit on his life disguised as a break-in.

The allegation at the center of the dispute is extreme, and it’s important to be precise about what is known versus what is claimed. Reports summarizing the filings say Wood believes Lopez was involved in an attempt to have him harmed, and that the incident was framed as a home invasion. The same coverage also notes that Lopez has denied wrongdoing and sought protection through the court system as well.

Wood’s new custody order arrives against the backdrop of an already-public legal back-and-forth between the two. In 2024, TMZ reported Lopez filed for a domestic violence restraining order against Wood while Wood’s side denied her claims, and Wood had previously been granted a restraining order and sole custody of their then-infant son after he accused Lopez of stalking and damaging property.

The earlier case reportedly also included a court order requiring Lopez to stay a set distance away from Wood.

This week’s headlines have traveled fast because of one phrase attached to the story, the accusation that Lopez tried to kill him, but the current posture, as reported, is still rooted in court proceedings and contested filings, not a criminal conviction or an adjudicated finding that such a plot occurred.
