Dwight Powell Retirement Rumor Draws Swift Denial From Mark Cuban

A report suggesting Dallas Mavericks center Dwight Powell is likely to retire at the end of this season drew a quick and unequivocal public denial from former principal owner and current minority owner Mark Cuban.

In a social media post responding to the claim, Cuban wrote, “Not true,” pushing back on speculation that the veteran big man has decided to hang it up after the 2025–26 campaign.

As of today, neither the Mavericks nor Powell have communicated a retirement.

Powell is earning $4 million this season, the final year of his current deal, and continues to serve in the Mavericks’ frontcourt rotation.

Powell has been a fixture with the Mavericks since arriving from Boston in the Rajon Rondo trade during the 2014–15 season. Over that decade-long run, he has carved out a reputation as a reliable, team-first contributor whose effort and screening have complemented star-led offenses.
