LaMelo Ball recently shut down rumors claiming he was open to a trade from the Charlotte Hornets and called the information false. Even with that, it is still fair to wonder if things might change later on, whether the Hornets adjust their plans or LaMelo changes his mind. If that moment ever comes, the question becomes whether the Dallas Mavericks should look into it.
The Mavericks have struggled in the early part of the season, sitting at 5-12. The first domino to fall was Nico Harrison, who orchestrated the Luka Doncic trade. And if you have been following the situation, it would not be surprising if Anthony Davis, the centerpiece of that deal, ends up next.
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report threw out an idea now that both Davis and LaMelo are in the rumor mill. He looked at the possibility of moving each team’s main star in a deal that could leave Dallas with a younger star and a more reliable offensive player to build around.
“As good as AD is, he’s not an offensive engine. Ball can be. He’d set up easy, open looks for Flagg. His outside shooting would make the middle of the floor a little clearer for Flagg’s slashing.
There would be a temptation to look at Ball as a Luka replacement, and he wouldn’t be that, but he’d at least give a team in dire need of passing, shooting and playmaking someone who can bring all of that.
Potential Deal: Anthony Davis for LaMelo Ball, Grant Williams, Liam McNeeley, a top-5 protected 2028 first-round pick and a lottery-protected 2030 first-round pick”
