Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley was arrested last Friday in Fort Bend County, Texas, and charged with felony assault following a violent incident involving a family member at a private residence.
According to new police reports obtained by TMZ, Beverley is also accused of punching his younger sister in the eye and choking her for up to 30 seconds during a confrontation at a home in Rosharon, a suburb of Houston.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies were dispatched to the residence around 1 a.m. on November 14 in response to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that a physical altercation had occurred between Beverley and his sister, who is reportedly a minor. The report alleges that Beverley struck her in the face and placed his hands around her neck, impeding her breathing.
Beverley was taken into custody and booked on a third-degree felony charge of assault involving a family or household member with intent to impede breathing or circulation, a serious offense under Texas law. He was released later that day after posting a $40,000 bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
In a statement to TMZ, Beverley’s attorney Letitia Quinones-Hollins said,
“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister—a young lady, a minor. Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”
Beverley also addressed the situation on social media, posting:
“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well. LUV.”
The 37-year-old guard last played for the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2024–25 NBA season and is currently not signed to any team. Known for his intense defensive play and fiery personality, Beverley has had a lengthy career with stints on the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Lakers.
As of Tuesday, no formal court date has been announced. The Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office has not commented on whether additional charges may be filed.
