During the Memphis Grizzlies’ recent matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, forward Jake LaRavia found himself the unexpected target of a cheeky chant from the home crowd.
As he checked into the game wearing jersey No. 12, a fan loudly shouted, “Who is No. 12?”… a moment that LaRavia not only heard, but embraced with humor.
But the moment didn’t end there. Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards couldn’t resist chiming in. After hearing the fan’s “Who is No. 12?” cry, Edwards turned toward the scorer’s table and echoed the sentiment saying,
“That’s what I’m saying?! I don’t know!” drawing laughter from fans.
Rather than taking offense, LaRavia embraced the moment with humility and humor.
“I find that kind of stuff funny because I am not well known at the moment,” LaRavia said, when asked about it after last night’s game against Miami.

But the truth is, he’s becoming very well known—especially after stringing together multiple standout performances for a Lakers squad that’s leaned heavily on his energy, shot-making, and defensive versatility.
LaRavia has been one of the Lakers’ most pleasant surprises this season. Over the past five games, he’s averaged double-digit scoring, shot over 40% from three, and played crucial minutes in tight fourth quarters. His hustle plays, timely cuts, and defensive reads have earned praise from head coach JJ Redick. The “Who is No. 12?” chant may have been meant as a slight, but it’s quickly becoming a badge of honor.
