Friday night’s matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn Nets was interrupted by a bizarre and unsettling moment when a fan stormed the court and ran directly toward Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell. The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter at Barclays Center, just as the Cavaliers were clinging to a narrow lead.
With 5:02 remaining in the game, play was halted after a foul when an unidentified individual in a purple hoodie sprinted onto the court. Holding a phone in his hand, the fan darted straight toward Mitchell, seemingly attempting to take a selfie or video. Mitchell, visibly startled, backed away instinctively as security rushed in to restrain the intruder.

“I took a few steps back and then I repositioned my feet and was ready to handle whatever was necessary,” Mitchell said postgame. “But the kid wanted a selfie. I know he’s probably [in jail], but when he gets out, he’s probably got a great selfie.”
Arena security acted swiftly, tackling the fan and escorting him off the court within seconds. The crowd buzzed with confusion and concern, while players and referees regrouped to resume play. The interruption caused a brief delay but did not appear to affect the Cavaliers’ focus, as they went on to secure a 125–121 victory.
