The Sacramento Kings have officially signed nine-time All-Star Russell Westbrook ahead of the 2025–26 NBA season. The deal, confirmed by ESPN’s Shams Charania, marks Westbrook’s seventh NBA team and his 18th season in the league.

Known for his relentless energy, playmaking, and leadership, Westbrook brings a wealth of experience to a team that ranked near the bottom in bench scoring and assists last season. His ability to contribute as both a starter and reserve gives head coach Doug Christie flexibility in managing rotations.

During the 2024–25 season with the Denver Nuggets, Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds in 75 games, including 36 starts. He shot 44.9% from the field and continued to show flashes of his prime explosiveness and court vision.

Westbrook’s decision to sign with Sacramento wasn’t just about opportunity, it was also about relationships. He shares strong bonds with Kings players Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan, and Zach LaVine, and has a history with Dennis Schröder from their time together in Oklahoma City. Additionally, assistant GM BJ Armstrong and GM Scott Perry are familiar allies from Westbrook’s agency and league circles.

The Kings have made it clear they’re building a culture around high motor and veteran leadership, and Westbrook fits that mold. His arrival is expected to energize the locker room and provide mentorship to younger guards like Keon Ellis and Jordan Ford.

While the terms of the deal have not been publicly disclosed, reports suggest Westbrook is signing for the veteran minimum.
