Russell Westbrook Focused Solely On NBA Return, Dismisses Overseas Offers

Despite growing speculation about his future, Russell Westbrook has made it clear: his sights remain firmly set on the NBA. According to veteran NBA insider Marc Stein, Westbrook has shown “zero interest” in playing overseas, even as international teams would likely line up to sign the former MVP.

“There has been ‘zero discussion’ to date about him weighing interest to play abroad this season,” Stein reported, citing league sources. “He’d naturally generate a slew of overseas offers if he was open to them, but I’m told that securing his next NBA opportunity has been the focus for Westbrook’s camp. Even if that means, as it increasingly appears, options fail to materialize until after the 2025–26 regular season starts on Oct. 21.”

Westbrook, 36, opted out of his contract with the Denver Nuggets earlier this offseason, a move that surprised many given the lack of immediate suitors. While his decision has drawn criticism, including from fellow players like Danny Green, Westbrook remains committed to finding the right NBA fit, even if it means waiting until the season is underway.

Known for his explosive athleticism and relentless motor, Westbrook has spent the past few seasons adapting to a bench role, most recently with the Nuggets. Though his minutes and production have dipped, his leadership and intensity continue to be valued assets, especially for teams seeking veteran depth.

The idea of Westbrook playing abroad has been floated by fans and analysts alike, with leagues in China, Europe, and the Middle East reportedly interested. But for now, Westbrook isn’t entertaining those possibilities. His focus is singular: return to the NBA, contribute meaningfully, and write the next chapter of a storied career on his own terms.
