Isaiah Thomas has never been short on confidence and he’s never let his height define his game. But in a recent appearance on the Got Sole podcast, the former Boston Celtics star made a bold claim: if he were just a few inches taller, he’d be the greatest player of all time.
“If I was 6’2″, I would be the greatest player of all time,” Thomas said. “So it’s past the Hall of Fame. The guys at 6’8″, 6’9″ can’t do what I did at 5’9″. So when you look at it like that, I’m one of the greatest”.

It’s a statement that reflects both his unwavering self-belief and the chip on his shoulder that fueled his rise from the 60th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft to an All-NBA performer. During the 2016–17 season, Thomas averaged 28.9 points per game and led the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals, all while battling through injuries and personal tragedy. His fearless drives, clutch shooting, and emotional leadership made him one of the league’s most electrifying players.
Yet injuries derailed his momentum, and Thomas has spent the last several years bouncing between teams, fighting for a roster spot. Despite the setbacks, his passion for the game remains intact, and so does his belief in his legacy.
