Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young just turned up the heat with a scorching 12-minute video aimed directly at veteran guard Patrick Beverley. The video, posted to Young’s “From the Point” podcast, was a full-throttle response to Beverley’s recent criticisms—and it didn’t hold back.
The feud began innocently enough when Beverley commented on X about the lack of effort in NBA All-Star Games. “Because All-Stars take the game for granted,” he wrote, suggesting that summer gym runs were more competitive than the league’s marquee exhibition.
Young, a four-time All-Star, fired back:
“Relax. Let us speak for ourselves.” That one-word clapback was enough to send Beverley into full “I took that personally” mode. On his own podcast, Beverley went scorched-earth:
“I don’t think he’s won enough to even speak to me… He’s been to the playoffs three times. I’ve been to the playoffs nine. My first seven years, I didn’t miss the playoffs at all.”
He also questioned Young’s leadership, claiming that players in Atlanta didn’t view him as a good teammate.
Young’s rebuttal came in the form of an 11-minute, 56-second video that was part diss track, part TED Talk. Speaking directly into the camera, Young dismantled Beverley’s resume, pointing out that despite playing alongside elite talent, including James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, and LeBron James, Beverley has only one conference finals appearance to show for it. Young didn’t stop there. He mocked Beverley’s infamous celebration atop the scorer’s table after a play-in win, calling it “the most embarrassing moment in NBA history.”
He declared, “I was never scared of Patty Bev,” dismissing Beverley’s reputation as a defensive enforcer. He emphasized his own leadership in guiding the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, something Beverley never achieved as a lead player.
With Young entering a contract year and Beverley currently unsigned, the beef may not spill onto the hardwood anytime soon.
