Malik Beasley is officially no longer a target in the federal gambling investigation led by the Eastern District of New York, his attorneys confirmed to ESPN. The news marks a major turning point for the veteran sharpshooter, whose free agency had been stalled amid speculation surrounding his alleged involvement in betting-related misconduct.
Attorneys Steve Haney and Mike Schachter stated that after extensive discussions with federal prosecutors, Beasley was cleared of any wrongdoing.
“Months after this investigation commenced, Malik remains uncharged and is not the target of this investigation,” Haney said. “An allegation with no charge, indictment or conviction should never have the catastrophic consequence this has caused Malik.”

The investigation had centered around suspicious betting activity, particularly involving player prop markets during Beasley’s 2023–24 season. No formal charges were ever filed.
Prior to the investigation, Beasley was reportedly close to signing a three-year, $42 million deal with the Detroit Pistons. That offer was pulled once his name surfaced in connection with the probe. Now, with his legal status clarified, Beasley’s market is expected to reopen, though timing and roster flexibility may limit his options.
Detroit still holds his cap rights and could offer a one-year, $7.2 million deal. The team also has the ability to extend a four-year, $30.96 million contract, though insiders suggest a short-term agreement is more likely.
Beasley is coming off a career-best season, playing all 82 games and averaging 16.3 points. He made 319 three-pointers, the second-most in the league, and led the NBA in catch-and-shoot threes with 248, the highest total since player tracking began.
With his name cleared and his shooting resume intact, Beasley is once again a viable target for teams needing perimeter scoring. The Brooklyn Nets, among others, are expected to re-enter discussions.
