A relaxing day at Isla Verde Beach in Puerto Rico turned into a nightmare for former NBA star Danilo Gallinari and his wife, Eleonora Boi, after she was bitten by what authorities believe may have been a shark while swimming in the waters off Carolina.
The attack occurred on July 31, 2025, as Boi, who is currently pregnant with the couple’s third child, sustained an open wound to her thigh, prompting immediate medical attention. She was transported to the Medical Center in Río Piedras and is reportedly in stable condition, according to Carolina Municipal Police Captain Rubén Moyeno.
While initial reports pointed to a shark, some local outlets suggested a barracuda may have been responsible. The Department of Natural and Environmental Resources reviewed photos of the wound and stated the bite characteristics were consistent with a shark, though further analysis is needed to confirm.
Gallinari, 36, is currently playing for Vaqueros de Bayamón in Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). Just days before the incident, his team clinched a spot in the BSN Finals, where they’ll face Leones de Ponce. Despite the personal turmoil, Gallinari is expected to continue competing while also preparing to join Team Italy for EuroBasket 2025 later this summer.
