Marcus Morris Sr. Arrested In Florida On Felony Fraud Charge Linked To Casino Debt

Veteran NBA forward Marcus Morris Sr. was arrested on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Broward County, Florida, on a felony fraud charge stemming from an out-of-state warrant. According to booking records and multiple reports, the 13-year NBA veteran was taken into custody at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and is currently being held without bond.

Initial reports described the charge as “Fraud – Writing a Check with Insufficient Funds,” but Morris’s agent, Yony Noy, and his twin brother Markieff Morris have pushed back against that characterization. They claim the arrest is tied to an unpaid casino marker, a form of credit extended by casinos to high-rolling patrons. In Nevada, failing to repay a marker is legally equivalent to writing a bad check and can result in felony charges.

“This is zero fraud here or whatever crap outlets have said,” Noy stated. “Apparently if you have over $1,200 [in unpaid markers], they can issue a warrant for your arrest. Absolute insanity!”

Morris, 35, was drafted 14th overall by the Houston Rockets in 2011 and went on to play for eight NBA franchises, including the Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, and most recently the Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers during the 2023–24 season. Known for his physical play and veteran leadership, Morris has also made appearances on ESPN’s First Take and Get Up, signaling a transition into media.

This isn’t Morris’s first brush with the law. In 2012, he entered a diversion program after a battery charge involving a bar employee. In 2015, he and Markieff were acquitted in an aggravated assault case in Arizona, stemming from an alleged attack on a former mentor.

As of now, no formal statement has been issued by Morris or his legal team. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has released a mugshot, but further details about the warrant and the originating state remain undisclosed.
