Entering his 17th season with four titles and two MVPs, Stephen Curry has more than enough credibility to evaluate greatness, and when it comes to basketball IQ, two names top his list—LeBron James and Chris Paul. The Golden State Warriors superstar said as much during an interview with Complex’s Speedy Morman.
Per NBC Sports Bay Area:
“Between [Chris Paul] and [LeBron James] — those two,” Curry told Morman. “It’s the way they play, obviously, but the way they talk, the way they can kind of orchestrate an offense [and] control it,” Curry told Morman. “Like, Bron is the one who can control the tempo the greatest. “And CP’s the one that, every possession, knows what he’s trying to get out of it. At his peak, it was insane; he could get his bucket and get somebody a lob or drop-down pass; he knew what play; the timing was cool; all that type of stuff.”
No shock there. Steph went to war against LeBron every June for like half a decade. If anyone knows how smart LeBron is, it’s Steph, who’s been on the business end of some of his masterclasses. As for CP3? Steph figured it out quick while competing with him for the top point guard spot.
All three are nearing the end. Steph could still have a few more runs, but for LeBron and especially CP3, this might be the last time they meet as opponents. It’s rare to see basketball minds like this on the court together, and this season could be one of the final times.
