Thunder Rookie Eric Reynolds II Accidentally Scores In Own Basket During Summer League Debut

Eric Reynolds II surely dreamed of his first NBA points… just not like this.

The Oklahoma City Thunder rookie made an unforgettable 2025 Las Vegas Summer League debut by scoring in the wrong basket against the Brooklyn Nets.

The confusion began off a jump ball in Reynolds’ defensive half. As the ball got to him, instinct took over. Reynolds grabbed it, saw an open lane, and calmly floated a right-handed layup off the glass… into the Nets’ basket. The ESPN broadcast caught the moment live, with stunned commentators noting,

“He just scored his first two points for the Nets.”

Even Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez, who happened to be mic’d up on the broadcast, couldn’t help but smile as his team was gifted two points.

Despite the blunder, Reynolds has a strong résumé. The 6’2″ guard from Saint Joseph’s University averaged 16.4 points per game in his senior season and totaled over 2,100 points across four years. His scoring instincts are undeniable, he just needed a moment to recalibrate.

Fortunately for Reynolds, the Thunder went on to win the game 90–81, and the mistake didn’t impact the outcome. In fact, it may have helped endear him to fans who appreciate the human side of high-pressure debuts.
