Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green is known for his fiery personality and relentless trash talk on the court. But as it turns out, he’s not even the best trash talker in his own family. That honor belongs to his mother, Mary Babers-Green, who has been roasting him and his teammates from the stands since his childhood.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Green shared hilarious stories about his mom’s brutal honesty during games. “My mom, since I was a child, has been the mom who, like, from the stands, she yells,
‘You suck,'” Green said. “But the thing about my mom is, she talks bad about all the players on my team… Oh, she kills them… But she absolutely annihilates me.”
Green explained that his mom’s trash talk was so intense that other parents at his youth games would initially get offended—until they realized she was even harsher on her own son.
“In the beginning, a parent will almost want to get snappy at her. And as they continue to watch, they realize how bad she talks about me, they’re just like, ‘Oh, that’s no problem, what she’s saying about my kid.'”
Green recalled moments when he would turn around mid-game and plead with his mom to stop. But that only made things worse.
“She wouldn’t talk to me for days after I did that… she’d be mad at me as if I did something wrong,” he said.
Despite her relentless criticism, Babers-Green has always been one of her son’s biggest supporters. She played a crucial role in his journey to the NBA, ensuring he stayed focused and disciplined. Green, who has built a reputation as one of the league’s most vocal players, admitted that his mom’s trash talk skills might even surpass his own.
While Green has won four NBA championships and established himself as one of the best defenders in the league, he knows that at home, his mom is the real MVP of trash talk.
“She might roast me mercilessly, but she’s also my fiercest supporter,” Green said.
