Cavaliers Face Injury Concerns Ahead Of Must-Win Game 2 Against Pacers

The Cleveland Cavaliers are heading into a crucial Game 2 against the Indiana Pacers, but their hopes of evening the series may be in jeopardy due to injuries to two key players—Evan Mobley and De’Andre Hunter.

Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson expressed serious concerns about the availability of both players, stating that their injuries could significantly impact Cleveland’s ability to bounce back from their 121-112 Game 1 loss.

Mobley suffered an ankle injury late in the fourth quarter after landing awkwardly on a jump shot attempt. He was seen limping in the postgame locker room, raising doubts about his ability to suit up for Game 2. Meanwhile, Hunter took a hard fall on the very next Cavaliers possession, dislocating his thumb in the process.

Both players have been instrumental in Cleveland’s success this season. Mobley, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, averaged 18.5 points and 9.3 rebounds during the regular season. Hunter, a key bench contributor, has provided 14 points per game and defensive versatility.

With Darius Garland already sidelined due to a toe injury, the Cavaliers could be missing three of their top rotation players in a must-win game. This puts additional pressure on Donovan Mitchell, who will need to carry an even heavier offensive load.

Atkinson voiced frustration over the non-calls that led to Mobley and Hunter’s injuries, stating that the plays “passed the line of physicality”. He emphasized that while he respects Indiana’s style of play, he believes the referees should have intervened to prevent excessive contact.

The Cavaliers have not lost two consecutive home games all season, but their injury woes could make it difficult to maintain that streak. If Mobley and Hunter are unable to play, Cleveland will need Dean Wade and Isaac Okoro to step up in expanded roles.

Game 2 is set for tonight at 7 p.m. ET in Cleveland, with the Cavaliers desperately needing a win to avoid falling into a 0-2 hole before heading to Indiana.
