Dallas Mavericks fans gathered outside the American Airlines Center to hold a symbolic funeral for Luka Doncic following his trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The fans, deeply affected by the unexpected trade, brought a coffin and conducted a funeral procession to honor their beloved star.
The exterior of the arena was adorned with candles, notes, and jerseys dedicated to Doncic, who had spent his entire seven-year NBA career in Dallas. Dozens of fans, dressed in black-tie attire, participated in the procession, which was accompanied by the soundtrack of Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again.” One fan even spent $3,000 to have the casket shipped overnight.
The fans’ grief was palpable as they expressed their sorrow and frustration over the trade. Many left heartfelt messages and flowers at the makeshift memorial, with one fan shouting,
“Luka, we miss you.”

In response to the fans’ heartfelt gesture, and the fan support during his time in Dallas in general, Doncic shared a touching goodbye letter on social media, expressing his gratitude for their unwavering support. He acknowledged the special bond he had with the city and its fans, thanking them for making North Texas feel like home.
