Danny Green Reflects On What Prevented Kevin Durant From Becoming The Best Player In NBA History

Kevin Durant’s resume is nothing short of legendary. He has two NBA championships, two Finals MVPs, four scoring titles, an MVP award, and 15 All-Star nods under his belt. If Durant decided to retire tomorrow, he would still be a first-ballot Hall of Famer and remembered as one of the best to ever do it.

But like any legend, his journey hasn’t been without “what ifs” that could influence how he’s viewed. What if he never joined the Golden State Warriors? What if he won with the Oklahoma City Thunder instead? These questions have always lingered.

This notion becomes even more compelling when considering the insights from former NBA sharpshooter Danny Green. In a recent interview, he stated that Durant could’ve been the best player in NBA history, but his leadership and alpha qualities weren’t enough to get him there.

“Honestly, he could’ve been the best player in the history of the game if he wanted to be,” Green said. “People just question his leadership and, obviously, the way he won or where he went to get the win. But if he wins those championships in OKC and gets more than one, or a couple, MVPs… I think he was deserving of more than one MVP. He was just never known to be that type of leader or that type of alpha.”
