The Brooklyn Nets and Ben Simmons are reportedly at a standoff, with buyout rumors heating up as contenders express interest in the three-time NBA All-Star. Simmons, who has struggled with injuries and inconsistent play since joining the Nets, is now considering a buyout to join a playoff contender.
Per Clutch Point’s Brett Siegel:
“There has been some talk amongst teams that Ben Simmons will approach the Brooklyn Nets for a buyout to join a playoff-contending team. League sources told ClutchPoints around the holiday season that the Nets were not interested in a buyout with Simmons. It seems like this situation will come down to whether Simmons approaches the team about one, something that has yet to be discussed between the two parties.”
Simmons has played in 31 of the Nets’ 48 games this season, averaging 6.4 points, 7.1 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game. Despite his decline in offensive production, Simmons remains a quality defender and playmaker, making him an attractive option for contending teams.
The Nets, currently committed to a rebuild, may not be interested in a buyout, leaving the decision in Simmons’ hands. If he decides to pursue a buyout, several teams could be potential landing spots. The Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, and Miami Heat are among the teams that could benefit from Simmons’ versatility and defensive prowess.
However, the situation remains uncertain, with the Nets needing to evaluate their long-term plans for Simmons. As the trade deadline approaches, all eyes will be on Simmons and the Nets to see if a buyout agreement can be reached.
