In a city known for its iconic landmarks and rich history, Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle found an unexpected highlight during the NBA Paris game: the police escort.

Carlisle’s amusing recount of the experience, and amazement at the Paris Police Department’s skillful navigation through the city’s bustling streets, was the highlight for media members present at his press conference before the first of two NBA games in Paris,

“I’d like to thank the Paris Police Department,” Carlisle said. “If these games are half as exciting as our police escorts over to the arena and back to the hotel, this is going to be an amazing three days. These guys are unbelievable. We are weaving in and out of stuff, all of a sudden going down the other side of the street. It is the most phenomenal experience I’ve ever had”.

Carlisle’s comments were met with laughter, as he humorously compared the police escort to some of Paris’ most famous attractions.

“With everything about Paris—you’ve got the Champs-Élysées, you’ve got the Arc de Triomphe, you’ve got Notre Dame, you’ve got all the art museums and everything else—the ride on the bus has been the most exhilarating thing so far and these guys are flat-out badasses. So we appreciate the Paris Police Department. Thank you”.

The game was closely contested in the first half, with both teams exchanging leads and keeping the score tight. The Spurs managed to pull ahead by halftime, leading 60-57. However, it was in the second half that Wembanyama and the Spurs took complete control. They outscored the Pacers by a wide margin, quickly turning the game into a one-sided affair.
