The NBA, in partnership with Tissot, has revealed a new round shot clock set to debut at the 2025 NBA All-Star Game and be implemented full-time for the 2025-26 season.
The innovative design and advanced technology signify a landmark shift from the traditional, square-shaped shot clocks that have been a staple of basketball for decades.
The redesigned shot clock, an outcome of the NBA’s visionary collaboration with Tissot and Swiss Timing Ltd, features a round shape that echoes the aesthetics of Tissot’s watchmaking heritage. This design will remain atop the backboards, boasting the same-sized digits as previous models.
However, it comes equipped with full RGB LED light strips, allowing the shot clock to illuminate in multiple colors beyond the standard red and amber. For instance, the league is incorporating a green-shaded countdown specifically for coaches’ challenges.
NBA Associate Vice President for Team, Arena, and Game Technology Brian Daglian elaborated, saying,
“We can customize the shot clock colors for special occasions, such as turning it purple and gold to honor Kobe Bryant. The possibilities are endless.”
The technological advancements also provide functional improvements. The shot clocks are now 20% lighter, facilitating easier handling. They are integrated with an IP-based distribution model that allows for real-time monitoring, ensuring smooth operation and immediate adjustments if needed.
Tissot CEO Sylvain Dolla expressed his enthusiasm, stating,
“This collaboration with the NBA is a testament to our shared vision of precision, creativity, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in sports technology.”
