Charles Barkley Shares Hilarious Anecdote About Dikembe Mutombo’s Wedding

During a recent episode of the Steam Room podcast, Charles Barkley shared a hilarious story about his late friend and NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo. Barkley recounted how Mutombo canceled his wedding because his fiancée refused to sign a prenuptial agreement.

Barkley explained that Mutombo had insisted that his fiancée sign a prenuptial agreement well in advance of the wedding. Despite repeated requests, she refused to sign it. Barkley recalled,

“He told the girl, ‘You have to sign a prenup.’ She said, ‘I’m not signing a prenup.'”

As the wedding date approached, Mutombo continued to bring up the issue, but his fiancée remained firm in her refusal. On the day of the wedding, Mutombo issued a final ultimatum, and when she still refused, he called off the wedding on the spot.

Instead of dwelling on the disappointment, Mutombo decided to make the best of the situation. He rallied his close friends, Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning, and the trio headed to Las Vegas to party and enjoy themselves. Barkley laughed as he shared this detail, highlighting Mutombo’s ability to turn even a potentially disheartening moment into an opportunity for fun.

Barkley also shared Mutombo’s humorous complaint about the situation:

“You know the worst thing about it, Charlie? They ate my cake.” Barkley, incredulous, asked, “Are you serious?” To which Mutombo replied, “I wasn’t upset about not getting married. She wouldn’t sign the prenup. But they ate my cake!”
