Team USA’s preparations for the FIBA World Cup got off to a rocky start on Friday, as they suffered back-to-back losses to the Select Team in scrimmages.

Team USA was led by Jalen Brunson and Brandon Ingram. However, the team as a whole struggled to score, with subpar shooting percentages.

The Select Team was led by Cade Cunningham, and also got contributions from a number of other players, including Jalen Green, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Duren.

The losses to the Select Team are a major wake-up call for Team USA, which is looking to rebound from a disappointing performance at the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Team USA finished seventh in that tournament, their worst finish since 1994.

The 2023 FIBA World Cup will be held in Japan, the Philippines, and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10.
