Obi Toppin Shares His Feelings After An ‘Unreal’ First NBA Game For The Knicks

The New York Knicks used their No. 8 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft to select Obi Toppin, a 22-year old athletic forward from the Dayton Flyers who was named the 2020 National College Player of the Year.

The Knicks have had a long history of being unlucky with the NBA Draft lottery and fumbling up their picks in the NBA Draft. But it seems like Leon Rose and the Knicks finally got their guy at the eight overall pick this year, giving them another solid piece to their exciting young core.

The rookie already set a Knicks franchise record by recording the highest score in the conditioning test in team history, and also received praises from new Knicks acquisition, Austin Rivers, who said that Obi Toppin ‘is beyond a freak athlete,’ and that ‘he’s going to be really good’.

Then, last night, Toppin made his preseason debut, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one block in 20 minutes off the bench. After the game, Toppin expressed how memorable his first game for the Knicks was.

“I felt great. It was amazing. It still feels unreal, but our guys did what he had to do today to pull the W. [Julius Randle] helped me every step of the way with personnel, and I felt like with the guys on the court, everybody did a great job.”
