Magic Johnson Returning to Lakers as Advisor
Magic Johnson may be the busiest man in the world. An NBA legend and part owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB), the Los Angeles Lakers have announced they have hired the five-time champion as an advisor to assist co-owner Jeanie Buss.
“We are thrilled and honored to add Magic’s expertise and abilities, and I look forward to working alongside him,” Jeanie Buss said of Johnson.
His role with the franchise will span across all departments of Lakers management.
Johnson’s duties will include, but not be limited to, advising ownership on all business and basketball matters, collaborating with coaches, evaluating and mentoring players, assessing future franchise needs, and helping ownership to determine the best path for growth and success. Johnson will spend time at Lakers offices in El Segundo and will report directly to Jeanie Buss.
Magic Johnson, a businessman in his own right, will assist Jeanie Buss with business decisions as well as basketball decisions.

Johnson’s NBA career spanned thirteen seasons from 1979-1991 and one last season in 1995-96; all coming with the Los Angeles Lakers and all under Jeanie Buss’ father, Jerry Buss. Johnson is one of the most accomplished players in league history, winning five championships (three-time Finals MVP), winning three MVP’s and being named to twelve All-Star teams. Magic was also apart of the 1992 United States “Dream Team” who won the Gold Medal.
