Jackson, New York Looking to Acquire Portland’s First-Round Picks

Along with their No. 8 overall pick granted through the NBA Draft Lottery, Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks are looking to add a second first-round selection in the 2017 NBA Draft.

According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, the Knicks have interest in trading pieces for one of the Portland Trail Blazers’ three first round selections. In the Trail Blazers’ possession are the No. 15, 20 (from Memphis via Denver and Cleveland), and 26 (from Cleveland) picks.

New York has the No. 8, 44, and 58 overall picks in the draft and are looking to build a young core around the foreign big man tandem of Kristaps Porzingis and Willy Hernangomez. Members of the organization see several players as potential options for the No. 8 pick, including French prospect Frank Ntilikina, Kentucky guard Malik Monk and North Carolina State guard Dennis Smith Jr.

Trade talks may be in the beginning stages, but it is interesting to see Jackson on the hunt for another first-round pick.
