Jayson Tatum And Tyronn Lue Are Blood Relatives

This past offseason, Celtics general manager Danny Ainge achieved his goal in bringing in a superstar player without giving up any of his young, major assets in Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

As often, when talking about the Celtics’ front office, this turned out to be a smart move. Jayson Tatum has taken the NBA by storm. He also is a great two-way player with an already great offensive game, and he isn’t scared of the big moments. Tatum has scored 20 or more points in seven-straight games and now has more points in these playoffs, than all rookies of the 2014, 2015, and 2017 classes had in the 2nd round of the playoffs combined, in their respective year.

The Celtics will now play the Cleveland Cavaliers for the eastern crown and Jayson Tatum will not only match up with his idol, LeBron James, but also play against a blood relative of his.

Yes, Jayson Tatum and Cleveland head coach Tyronn Lue are cousins. “Little Jay’s,” as Lue calls Tatum, father and the Cavs coach are cousins. He told ESPN that he is proud how Tatum has developped, but also that the matchup will be “weird” to manage.

“They come to Mexico [Missouri] all the time,” Lue said. “Just seeing Little Jay when he was 6 or 7 years old and now to who he is today is crazy. Seeing the player he’s become, we knew he was going to be good, but now he’s at a whole new level. Just seeing him coming to Mexico and just coming to my barbecues and all that stuff and now he’s an NBA player and playing at a high level, it’s just good to see.”

We’ll soon find out if their will be an awkward moment at their next family reunion. At least the talent runs in the family.
