Jahlil Okafor Excited About Fresh Start

Jahlil Okafor was the odd man out on the ‘trust the process’ Philadelphia 76ers. He’s never really arrived in Philly and after a somewhat promising rookie season, his playing time dwindled by the week.

Thankfully for him, these days are over and a new future awaits the big man. This must have been a huge relive for ‘Jah’ who even said “I felt like it was a dream come true.”

Jahlil Okafor plans to make his Brooklyn debut tonight, when the Nets play the Wizards. With Okafor and his new teammate D’Angelo Russell, who currently is injured, the Nets’ roster now features the number two and three draft picks of the 2015 NBA Draft. This is one of the reasons why Jahlil is so excited to play for the Nets.

“We’re just very excited to get on the court together. You never would’ve thought the number two and number three picks would be playing on the same team a few years after, but like I said, everything happens for a reason and I’m really excited. I feel like we’re similar in that we have a lot to prove. I know he’s working his (butt) off as well. Right now he’s rehabbing, trying to get back on the court. I think we both have a chip on our shoulder and we have a lot to prove. We’re definitely similar in that regard.”

Okafor, who practiced with the Nets for the first time yesterday, hasn’t discussed his new role with head coach Kenny Atkinson yet, but it would be a surprise if he didn’t quickly find himself in the starting five in Brooklyn.
