Carmelo Anthony Would Only Accept A Buyout If He’d Join Cleveland

We know that Phil Jackson wanted to get rid of Carmelo Anthony before the start of the new season. Melo is still on his big contract with the Knicks and has a no-trade clause in his contract, which he does not try to get rid of anytime soon, unless it would be the perfect situation for him on a new team.

Phil Jackson is no longer with the Knicks, but it still is very likely that Anthony will leave the team as well. For the Knicks to finally enter their re-build mode, Melo needs to be gone.

A trade seems somewhat unlikely, leaving the Knicks with basically one possibility to get rid of their star player – buying him out.

According to Stephen A Smith, Carmelo would only agree to a buyout, if it was for the Cavaliers.

Carmelo would certainly make the Cavaliers a better team. They need to upgrade their roster in order to keep up with Golden State, and now Houston, too.

We know that NBA superstars Chris Paul, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade are best friends. They always had the dream of playing together. James once told the media:

“I really hope that, before our career is over, we can all play together. At least one, maybe one or two seasons—me, Melo, D-Wade, CP—we can get a year in. I would actually take a pay cut to do that. It would be pretty cool. I’ve definitely had thoughts about it.”

Dwyane Wade has just opted into his $24 million player option with the Chicago Bulls, but after the Jimmy Butler trade, it is obvious that they are trying to rebuild. Wade could ask the Bulls to buy him out as well.
